Pancham Prasad

Now a day’s children give up early in front of the circumstances and stop working hard. Become a part of the crowd of unsuccessful people. But there are some such examples which inspire us to fight with the circumstances and move forward in life.

This story is about one such person who came out of a small village of Uttar Pradesh and won all his adverse situations by his hard work and got National Award from former Prime Minister of India Shri Man Mohan Singh ji.

Now his story in his own words: My name is Pancham Prasad. I was born in a very poor family in Sikanderpur village of Chakia Tehsil of Chandauli district, Uttar Pradesh. I am the eldest of my five brothers and two sisters. Agriculture was the only support for the maintenance of the family, in that too there were not enough means of irrigation, farming was done with the help of nature, and sometimes there was a drought. The upbringing of family of seven children was a big challenge for my father, I always used to think about studies. Somehow, I completed my studies up to the fifth standard in my own village. But my father flatly refused for further studies. At the same time there was a test of 200 marks with all the nearby school children, in which I got 196 marks. From there the eyes of the teachers fell on me and they encouraged me to continue further studies and also assured that with the help of donations, you will study further. In class 8, I was the only student who passed with first class; also I taught two daughters of the teacher and they passed with second class. A wave of happiness ran in the village school.

When my father was expecting financial help in running the household and physical help in the farm work, I was busy building my future on my studies. Father had clearly refused for further studies but my guru ji Shri Bhagwati Pandey ji came forward to help and he himself took me to Government Inter College Chakia which is 5 km away from my village on his bicycle and asked the principal about my condition. By this, the entire fee of 4 years was waived. Due to the insistence of my studies, the distance between my father and me increased a bit and he stopped speaking to me. But my mother, who loved me immensely, supported me in every decision and always inspired me to move forward. Even my revered Guruji did not leave my side. I will always be especially indebted to my mother and revered Guruji. At the same time I promised myself that I would study further and become an engineer or a doctor and one day I would definitely change the condition of my family. Financial constraints were stopping me from moving forward but I was still completely firm towards my goal. I worked as a wage worker for ₹ 1 per day to meet the need of money and also started loading and unloading of goods on trucks. In this way, after hard work for 4 years, I passed the examination in intermediate school with first division also.

My life rides like a remote ride, from home to wrestling field, from field to ground, then school was just my life cycle, apart from this Kabaddi, running, high jump, long jump, and exercise, which was my life's hobby, was also fulfilling them little by little. Due to lack of money, I could not even buy kerosene oil for my studies and often completed my studies in moonlit nights. After 12th, suddenly my father's health became very bad, due to growing up, all the responsibility of the house came on me and I had to leave my studies and took care of farming. Immediately after his father's recovery, with the help of a friend from my village, I took admission in ITI in Banaras. There too I informed everyone about my financial condition, so that there also I got ₹ 40 per month as scholarship support for 2 years. I passed ITI in 1984 with 81%. I was progressing towards my goal but again I could not take admission in engineering due to financial constraints and I started working in a workshop in Mughalsarai 32 km away from my village and later I joined apprentice in 1985 in Hindalco Sonbhadra. As a reward for years of hard work, I got selection in technician in NTPC Singrauli on 26th December 1986, after 10 years my father started speaking to me. It was the end of one of my struggle eras, but now I have become used to working hard. While working in NTPC, I considered work more than myself, I got all that I had never imagined.

In the year 2000, I was honored with the Manohar Lal Malik Award, the highest award of NTPC Singrauli and in 2004 received the National Honor Shram Veer Award by the Hands of the Prime Minister of the country, Dr. Manmohan Singh. Apart from this, playing a key role in Universal Quality Circle, represented India in Japan with the team in 2011 and also brought up NTPC's name with him. Because there is no age to learn, so I continued my studies, did Diploma in Power Engineering in 2009 with 75% marks and joined NTPC Vindhyachal on 26 December 2014 as Engineer and retired on July 2022 as Assistant Manager. I have a daughter who is PGDM from Marketing HR, two sons, elder son is working as manager in SBI and younger son is currently preparing for his job. At present, I have made my permanent residence in Sonbhadra district and will do social service by staying there. In the end, I bow to my Gurudev, whose inspiration and guidance helped me reach this stage, as well as indebted and grateful to my parents, whose cooperation and blessings made my life successful in this form.
