This story is about a boy, who was wandering in the darkness of his own life and by his strong determination he reached the height of a sky.

Shrikant Bolla

Srikanth Bolla — a 19-year-old sophomore who is blind — recently realized a dream when he traveled to Hyderabad, India, to develop a computer-training center for visually challenged students

                                                                 Source: https://spectrum.mit.edu/spring-2011/living-his-dream/

He was born in a poor farmer family in a village Seetharamapuram of Machilipatnam, a city in Andhra Pradesh in 1992. He was visually impaired at the time of his birth. Many of his relatives suggested to abandon the child as it would be very difficult for the child to survive. They said He is a “useless” baby without eyes… being born blind is a sin.

But the destiny has written something else in the fate of Shrikant. He was brilliant in his studies and got more than 90% marks in class 10. He was keenly interested in science and wanted to choose science as his core subject. Indian laws don’t permit to study science to visually impaired students. He filed a case and allowed to take admission in science at his own risk. He got a good score in the 12th class.

He wanted to become an Engineer but he was again denied for the IIT Entrance examination and his dreams again vanished by Indian Rules. His determination and hope didn’t diminish here and he applied to MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This world-class university understood the talent of Mr. Bolla and gave admission. He was the first international blind student at the university.

After completing his business administration, Bolla returned to India and he has set up Bollant Industries in Hyderabad, a company that employs and trains differently-abled individuals to manufacture eco-friendly and compostable packaging. Later Mr. Ratan Tata provided an undisclosed investment funding to the company.

Now Shrikant has the vision to bring the IPO for the company, this company has 70% disable working manpower. It is not doing mere CSR activity but it is sustainable welfare for the underprivileged sections of society.

Shrikant Bolla not only tricked fate but also become the hope for lakhs of visually impaired. He showed if you are determined and want to work hard, the universe will support you in your goals.

As author Paulo Coelho says, “We warriors of light must be prepared to have patience in difficult times and to know the Universe is conspiring in our favour, even though we may not understand how.”

Let us take our sword of inspiration to cut the darkness, fear of failure, disbeliefs, hopelessness from Mr Shrikant Bolla.
